Globalization of economy is ushering in spectacular changes all over the world.Transcending the boundaries of individual nations. This has posed a mammoth challenge to developing nations such as India but at the same time provided the impetus for healthy but tough competition.
The standards of science education in most of the private schools and colleges do not measure up to the required levels of excellence.People feel let down and the academic climate is plagued with complaints that the parents readiness for braving the financial odds is not being reciprocated with rendering of quality education.
Apart from all these lack of scientific awareness plagues the society at different levels. The aptitude for research has given way to quick money earning strategies.Modern education leaves us being a money earning machine.
The need of the day is to get back our lost glory which we once were proud of in the field of science and technology. We need to popularize science and need for research at different levels of eduaction so that a new scientifically motivated India emerges out of it.We all may do great things in our area of research but at the end of day our attitude for most of the times is not scientific .We are laden with mean thoughts, selfishness and hatred for others.I believe that a true scientist is not one who produces papers in high impact factor journals but He should be one who things scientifically in his day to day life and does not run after something which rest of the world are crazy about i.e money.Scientists are not film stars or sportsmen that they require fame and money. They are ordinary men with extraordinary thoughts and actions.
The need of the day is to produce greater number of thinkers rather than a manager in every other house.
As Nobel Laureate David Gross points out 'If a country neglects basic research it is doomed to be always a follower and not a leader, and it will lose its most talented young scientists who will go elsewhere.Healthy science is like a healthy tree:you cannot destroy the roots and hope that the branches will flourish'.
Let us all join hands together and help India a scientifically motivated country.
